Honeycomb cardboard is the most widely used core in many leading door manufacturers and can also be used with many facing materials, including plywood and hardboard.

The light weight and great rigid strength of cardboard honeycomb make it the ideal choice for non-load bearing partitions such as cubicles or office screens that are strong and non-warping.

Paper Honeycomb is made by initial paper honeycomb being dipped in a phenolic resin to produce a honeycomb core with high strength and very good fire resistance. Paper honeycomb is widely used for lightweight interior panels for aircraft in conjunction with phenolic resins in the skins. Special grades for use in fire retardant applications (eg public transport interiors) can also be made which have the honeycomb cells filled with phenolic foam for added bond area and insulation.

Paper honeycomb is becoming increasingly popular in high-performance non-aerospace components due to its high strength properties, low density and long-term stability.
